The short answer
The nursing licensing exam run by the Oman Medical Specialty Board — officially the Omani Occupational Classification Examination for Nurses — is delivered exclusively by Pearson VUE. OMSB and Pearson VUE announced a multi-year exclusive testing partnership in February 2023. If you are booking a seat in 2026, you are booking it through Pearson VUE, not through Prometric.
The phrase “Oman Prometric exam” survives because it was the common label for GCC nursing licensing exams for years, and because several Gulf authorities do still use Prometric for their own exams. For Oman’s nursing exam specifically, that label is now a nickname rather than a description of the delivery vendor.
What actually changed in February 2023
OMSB signed a multi-year exclusive partnership with Pearson VUE covering delivery of its occupational classification examinations, including the nursing exam. In practice, three things moved:
- Scheduling moved to Pearson VUE. Candidates create a Pearson VUE account and schedule from the OMSB testing programme page rather than a Prometric portal.
- Test-centre network changed. You can sit the exam at Pearson VUE test centres worldwide or at the OMSB Test Center in Oman — useful if you are applying from India, the Philippines, Egypt, Jordan or elsewhere in the Gulf.
- Result delivery. Your score report is emailed within 24 hours of the exam, rather than handed over as a slip at the desk.
Why nurses get confused
Search “Oman Prometric exam” today and you will still find coaching sites, PDF dumps and five-year-old blog posts describing a Prometric booking flow. Some third-party sources also reference an older “Oman Ministry of Health (PROMETRIC-RN)” pathway. We could not verify whether that is a legacy reference or a separate historical track, so treat it with caution — for OMSB nurse classification in 2026, Pearson VUE is the vendor named by Pearson VUE and OMSB themselves.
This matters more than it sounds. Nurses who prepare from outdated material often arrive at the booking stage looking for the wrong portal, misjudge the exam length, or study a blueprint that no longer matches the official domain list.
What this means for your preparation
The vendor change does not alter the clinical content you need — it alters where you register, what the screens look like, and how long you sit. Two practical consequences:
- Rehearse on a Pearson VUE-style interface, not a Prometric mock-up: countdown, item navigator, flag-for-review, review screen at the end.
- Study the eight official blueprint domains, which include community health nursing, gerontological nursing and evidence-based practice — three areas most legacy “Prometric” material skips entirely.
